A special weekend is coming up to close down the year...first, on Saturday 19th, we'll be celebrating the Winter Solstice! Act I will take place in the forest, with singing, decorating a hedge with treats for the forest's animals, and a candle light procession back to the warmth of the city!
Act II will be a cozy indoors party, featuring soups and seasonal drinks, as well as a Yule Log...and of course lots of music and good cheer!
Right after that, on Sunday 20th, we will have our last service of the year, featuring Lara Fuchs, UU Ministerial Intern, as guest speaker. Called "Ancestors", her homily will be reflection on not just where we come from, but who we come from:
“Some people are your relatives but others are your ancestors, and you choose the ones you want to have as ancestors. You create yourself out of those values.”
—Ralph Ellison
In Lara's own words:
It’s a big difference. As Ralph Ellison notes, when we choose our ancestors, we choose to see ourselves differently: through the lens of the way they lived, through the lens of the values we aspire to! What kind of ancestor will you be?
Together we will look back at the lineage of historical figures who have engendered our liberal faith and the path that we ourselves are on, creating a heritage for future generations.
About Lara: I am Canadian and Swiss, and have lived in Europe since 2005. I’ve been Unitarian Universalist all of my life, and have always cared deeply about human rights and our responsibility to our world. I believe that Unitarian Universalism can be a bridge between cultures and faiths, a platform for dialogue and compassion, and a model for how we can impact positive change in the world for people and for the Earth itself. I am interested in building networks and supporting emerging Unitarian communities around the world. In 2010 I co-founded a new UU congregation in Basel, Switzerland, and became involved with the EUU (European Unitarian Universalists). Shortly thereafter, I attended an ICUU conference in Koloszvar and was invited by the ICUU Executive committee to fill a mid-term vacancy as a Member at Large. In 2014 I was elected to serve as Hon. Secretary, and also began studies with Meadville Lombard Theological Seminary, in Chicago, to become a UU minister. Currently I am serving three European UU fellowships as ministerial Intern, and am looking forward to continued work to broaden the reach and support of Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist communities around the world.

In Lara's own words:
- Relatives give us our brown eyes and bowed legs; ancestors bless and burden us with a legacy.
- Relatives are those we tell stories about; ancestors call us to carry forward the story of our values.
- Our relatives allowed us to be here; our ancestors tell us why we are here and why being here matters.
